What kebab-case is

All lowercase, words separated by hyphens: product-landing-page-hero-v2. It is the standard wherever humans read a name inside a larger string — URL slugs, CSS class names, file names, component names, CLI flags. Paste anything and the splitter copes with spaces, camelCase boundaries, underscores, dots and stray punctuation.

Why hyphens beat underscores on the web

Search engines historically treated the hyphen as a word separator and the underscore as a joining character — blue-widget reads as two words, blue_widget as one. Whether or not that distinction still moves rankings, the hyphen remains the convention users can read, type and dictate unambiguously: nobody asks "underscore or space?" about a hyphen.

Where each sibling convention belongs

kebab-case for URLs, CSS and files; snake_case inside Python, SQL and shell variables; camelCase/PascalCase in Java and JavaScript identifiers; CONSTANT_CASE for environment variables and enums. This page does the one it names — the full case converter handles the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything on this page runs inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.

What happens to punctuation like '?' or '!'?

Characters that can't live in a slug become separators or are dropped — 'FAQ: How do I?' comes out as 'faq-how-do-i'.

Is kebab-case the same as a URL slug?

Close: a slug is kebab-case plus length limits and often stop-word trimming. This converter does the case part; your CMS handles the rest.

Numbers and versions?

They stay attached: 'Hero v2' becomes 'hero-v2', 'iPhone 15 Pro' becomes 'iphone-15-pro'.
