How to use this tool

  1. Paste or drop your input above.
  2. The tool processes it locally — usually instantly.
  3. Copy the output or download the result.

Excel out, CSV in — without the upload

Most Excel-to-CSV sites want your file uploaded to a server, which is exactly wrong for spreadsheets that so often contain payroll, customer lists or grades. This page reads the workbook locally with SheetJS, lists the sheets it finds, and converts whichever one you pick into standard CSV.

One sheet at a time — because that's what CSV is

CSV has no concept of multiple sheets, so pretending otherwise produces a mess. You get a sheet picker, and each run converts one sheet cleanly. The header row is whatever your sheet's first row is; values come out as stored in the file (formulas export their cached computed values, which is what you almost always want).

The leading-zero bonus

A classic Excel pain: open a CSV of ZIP codes and Excel eats the zeros. Going the other way is safe here — the CSV is written by the browser as plain text, so 0755 stays 0755. When you later open that CSV in Excel, use Data → From Text/CSV and mark those columns as text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything on this page runs inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.

Which Excel formats can it read?

Modern .xlsx plus the older .xls binary format, and .xlsm/.xlsb — anything SheetJS can parse locally. Password-protected workbooks cannot be opened without the password.

Why do I pick a sheet?

CSV is a single grid, so each conversion handles one sheet. For a multi-sheet workbook, convert the sheets one at a time.

What happens to formulas?

You get the computed values (the numbers Excel itself displays), because that is what is cached in the file. The formula text itself is not exported.
